Thrashy melodic death metal. This stuff gets you fuckin pumped. It’s nice to get an album like this every once and a while; catchy, aggressive, and very easy to bang your head to. Make music like this and you shouldn’t have trouble finding a label, and that’s what should be said about Senate. Hailing from the bleak Ontario province of Canada, Senate has created a quality independent album; The Great Northern Scenekill (whatever the fuck that means).
The vocals aren’t typical of death metal; in fact they might even be closer to black metal vocals the way they are pitched, but they are thrash-paced and tight. No complaints about the vocals. I like ‘em, they work well with the music. There’s also some death grunts when need calls for it. Amidst the blastbeats and testosterone-inducing shredding, there be some decent solos too, all directed by the fiery melodies.
Prominent tracks include; Victorious Hatred, Queen of Sorrow, and Recommit Rising. Altogether, this is a solid debut album and it seems to be the kind of stuff big labels look for, but at the same time it is also some pretty decent metal even if you don’t necessarily like big-label shit. |
