SENATE
THE GREAT NORTHERN SCENEKILL 44:54
SELFRELEASE / CANADA-IMPORT

It seems logically that you'll raise some Pantera-references with such a title, but this is without a reason. Senate doesn't sound like Pantera nor do they need such an association, cause their mix of Thrash, Death, a bit of Black and some elements of modern metal really sound bombastic. There's a lot to be read in today's metal-scene about the perfect mix of brutality and melody: Well, Senate's of course not the only band that rules this symbiosis, but definitely they have the reception for great cocktails of that kind. Not long after the last notes of the crazy intro have gone through your ears, one gets bound by the truly gigantic riff of the opener "Victorious Hatred". Soon you get to know that Senate are not only into great hooks and fantastic melody-lines, but also offer the listener great technical abilities like Meshuggah and Strapping Young Lad. Track 3, "Queen Of Sorrow", starts like a punch in your face. Here meet aggressive riffing and crazy vocals, which are in the borderlines between Death, Black, Metalcore and drug-illness, with structured songwriting. "A War Without End Amen…" includes a really long and fucking genius guitar-solo and short after that there's a technical superb storm blast that leaves you thinking that the western-european winter-storm named Kyrill was just a blow. Again and again there are dual lead-guitars, which try to undertake the blast-attacks of the drummer extraordinaire. Mastered from Tue Madsen (The Haunted etc.) is "True Canadian Metal " – these are the greeting words in the CD itself – something for metal fans of each genre. Even Maiden-fans should take a listen on www.myspace.com/senatemetal , though At The Gates, Arch Enemy, In Flames, Soilwork and Strapping Young Lad are the better meeting points. But one thing is fore sure: Canada rocks! www.senatemetal.com
