SENATE

'The Great Northern Scenekill'

© 2006 Senate

Like a missile silo secretly hidden in a snow-covered mountain, Senate fires upon us out nowhere from the dark Canadian wilderness. Their howling monster of a self-released debut 'The Great Northern Scenekill' shows the four members' schooling in heavy metal evident in their brutal style and terrifying guitar/vocal barrage. The band has since added another [member] and is currently on tour in Canada with Thine Eyes Bleed!

Lyrically, the band's focus is on hate and battle, conflicts with outside forces and the many demons blaring out of the speakers. It's important to reiterate just how loud and damaging this album is, reaching moments of blistering intensity with the precision of the Black Dahlia Murder and Children of Bodom. There's moments of Cradle of Filth as well, and Senate does well to represent them all in a style all their own. Also, Senate's in-your-face approach comes with a sneer and a spit in the eye, a band so filled with hatred they actually pull in other malignant forces to gain strength.

So it's worth the trip to be assaulted by the cold northern maniacs of Senate. It's fast as hell, mean as anything and so complete in its social distraught that you'll let them yell in your ear in no time.
